    Applying a broad‑brush balancing of the Wife's and children's reasonable recurring needs against the Husband's ability to pay (recognising some of Husband's income is employer-paid allowances and some assets are not readily realizable), the court adjusted claimed items, rejected exaggerated or non-recurring items, and concluded HK$66,000 per month is reasonable interim maintenance for Wife and children; claim for legal costs refused for lack of detailed breakdown and alternative means of funding.

    Court found petitioner lacked deployable assets and means to fund legal costs, there was no firm arrangement allowing funding by charging the outcome and legal aid was unlikely to provide the required two-counsel certificate; respondent has adequate resources. It was therefore fair and reasonable to order interim contribution to petitioner's future legal costs up to the FDR. The court awarded respondent monthly payments of HKD45,000 from 12 October 2014 to 12 January 2015 and made a nisi order for respondent to pay petitioner's costs of the application.

    On the interim evidence and in the exercise of judicial discretion the court preferred the Husband's more modest interim funding proposal over the Wife's higher request because the Husband's income and means did not support the higher rental and dual-household standard; however the Husband's application to discharge the existing costs contribution was refused because the Wife must be permitted to retain savings for foreseeable forensic and emergency needs; costs reserved to final ancillary hearing.
