A paying/collecting bank that, acting as both collecting and paying bank, fails to make a decision within the time established by the common consent and practice of banks as to whether to pay a house cheque thereby loses its right to reject the cheque; the delay operated to make the cheque the bank's own and accordingly the plaintiff's indebtedness was reduced by HK$1,300,000 as from 3 December 1977.
