The court allowed the appeal and quashed the conviction because the magistrate went beyond using any admissions on the tapes as evidence against the appellant and impermissibly used the tapes to corroborate and bolster PW1's credibility; tapes of conversations involving the prosecution witness are not independent corroboration and their use in that way rendered the conviction unsafe.
