The convictions were affirmed because, on re‑hearing the evidence, the cumulative environmental circumstances — the appellants' proximity in time and place to a pervasive unlawful assembly, the direction of police dispersal and demonstrators' movements, and the appellants' attire and possession of equipment — supported an irresistible inference of participation; there was no miscarriage in the trial judge's factual findings or credibility assessments warranting appellate interference.
