Although deliberate deception to obtain immigration documentation justifies imprisonment, the trial magistrate imposed sentences exceeding what was appropriate given statutory maxima and first‑offender/familial obligation mitigation; therefore the court allowed the appeals in part and substituted reduced concurrent custodial sentences (9 months for 1st appellant; 6 months for 2nd appellant).
