Solicitor advocates are not equivalent to barristers for the purpose of ad hoc admission; the public interest in maintaining a strong and independent local Bar requires overseas counsel to be admitted only on the condition they appear with a local barrister; applicants must inquire about the availability of suitable local senior counsel although, in the special circumstances of this case, the court granted conditional admission despite that failure.
