Although the trial judge made an excessive number of interruptions, they were largely intended to clarify confusion caused by inexperienced counsel and an inexperienced interpreter, did not exhibit hostility or bias, did not prevent the defence from being properly presented, and the Reasons for Verdict show all material defence issues (including alibi) were considered; accordingly leave to appeal against conviction is refused.
