For the purpose of section 4(7) of the Intestates Estates Ordinance (Cap 73) 'parent', 'father' and 'mother' mean the natural parent, father and mother; the Ordinance contains no express provision treating a jimu/stepmother under Chinese customary law as 'mother' for upward succession, and customary law does not support upward succession, therefore the natural mother (Madam Leung) alone is entitled to letters of administration and the residuary estate.
