The judge's directions and interventions did not render the trial unfair or the conviction unsafe: local practice allows majority verdicts with a minimum 5 of 7, the judge acted within his discretion in enquiring of the jury and offering accommodation, his advisory comment on a documentary exhibit was permissible and non‑prejudicial (and later correct exclusion of late advice was proper), misstatements and clerk remarks were peripheral and non‑prejudicial, and the five‑year sentence fell within permissible judicial discretion given the quantity of heroin and mitigation for youth.
