The court held that objectionableness is to be assessed by community standards (magazines considered as a whole) and that the magistrate did not err in finding the magazines objectionable; offences under s.4(1) can be treated as strict liability for the company, and s.84 of the Interpretation and General Clauses Ordinance makes officers criminally liable where they consented or connived in the offence, including where they deliberately shut their eyes to an obvious means of knowledge, therefore the convictions were lawful and the appeals must be dismissed.
