The Court held the summing-up and directions were legally adequate: the jury were properly directed on elements of forgery, on drawing inferences, and on how to treat alleged conspiracies with 'persons unknown'; there was sufficient evidence for the jury to find the appellant conspired with at least one person unknown; there was no real danger of judicial bias; however the trial judge's sentencing starting point was excessive and the sentence was reduced from three years to one year imprisonment.
