Counsel's admission of the immigrants' illegal status was proper because the status was not genuinely in issue, the admission was consistent with the defence, and readily provable; admissions to police were voluntary and a mere technical breach of the Directions did not render them inadmissible absent unfairness; therefore convictions were upheld.
