The Court dismissed the appeal: the 15 June letter and accompanying pre‑sentence letters did not demonstrate a meaningful contribution to Father Wotherspoon's campaign or positive good character warranting a sentencing discount; defence counsel's decision not to produce the letter was a reasonable tactical judgment in light of prevailing sentencing practice and did not amount to flagrant incompetence or result in a miscarriage of justice; therefore no reduction of the sentence was warranted.
