The judge applied standard sentencing principles and adopted substantial individual starting points but the Court of Appeal judge considered it reasonably arguable that the adopted overall starting point of 13.5 years was manifestly excessive raising a totality issue; accordingly leave to appeal against sentence was granted to permit full challenge to individual and aggregate sentencing decisions.
