On the balance of probabilities the judge found the defendant's account and witnesses not credible and rejected the existence of the alleged oral agreement and any payments totaling approximately RMB700,000 in satisfaction of such an agreement; the plaintiff was entitled to recover RMB1,000,000 (being the amount she accepted at trial) plus interest; transfers by defendant's sons were treated as partial repayment of prior loans, not payment for the property.
