The appeal was dismissed because the sanctioned payment of $120,000 accepted by the plaintiff's solicitors constituted a reasonable and final settlement for the alleged period of unlawful detention; the plaintiff's claim based on a daily rate extrapolated from Ghulam Rbani was legally unsustainable for lengthy detention; sums were held by DLA subject to the Legal Aid first charge; periods of lawful imprisonment following conviction do not generate additional damages; accordingly the master's decision to dismiss was correct and costs were awarded against the plaintiff.
