Conviction of Lau was safe; trial judge did not err in directions on corroboration because the physical evidence discovered and given by police was independent of accomplice testimony and properly left to the jury. Cheng Yeung guidelines, promulgated after the offences, should not be applied retrospectively; sentencing must follow law prevailing at time of offence. Given changed market and purity of heroin the Court replaces prior guidance and adopts a new tariff based on quantity of narcotic (salts of esters of morphine) with specified bands; sentences in the appeals are reduced accordingly…
