The oral agreement to pay HK$2,000 was illegal and void as exploitative and contrary to public policy and Hong Kong's international obligations; notwithstanding that, a contract of employment is implied on the terms of the Written Contract approved by the Director of Immigration (including the Director's minimum wage), and the appeal is allowed and remitted to the Labour Tribunal to determine wages in lieu of notice and arrears on that basis.
