The magistrate was entitled to rely on the appellant's contemporaneous cautioned statement and assess the totality of evidence (speed in excess of limit, seeing amber, accelerating on a wet road into pedestrians) to find reckless driving that caused the death; the inconsistencies in Crown witness evidence did not render the conviction unsafe because the magistrate addressed them, expressed reservations, and explained his findings; custodial sentence was not manifestly excessive though the period of statutory disqualification was reduced in the exercise of appellate discretion.
