Appellant was an occasional, short‑term helper temporarily ‘minding the shop’ and not engaged in the regular business of selling; in those specific circumstances a reasonable person would not expect him to make enquiries about the authenticity of goods, so the statutory defences applied and the convictions and concurrent community service sentences were unsafe and were quashed.
