Where unlawful sexual intercourse with a girl under 13 involves a victim who is sexually precocious and where the age gap is modest, the starting point may be reduced from that in more serious cases, but a substantial payment to the child and unprotected intercourse are aggravating. Applying those principles, a starting point of two years with the conventional one‑third plea discount plus modest additional mitigation resulted in a substituted custodial sentence of 13 months imprisonment.
