The Court held the individual sentences of 6 years for aggravated burglary and 8 years for rape were not manifestly excessive given premeditation, weapon and violent sexual conduct, but applying the totality principle and noting substantial overlap in objectives between the offences the composite sentence was excessive and must be reduced from 11 years to 9 years 6 months by ordering 1 year 6 months of the Count 1 sentence to run consecutively to Count 5.
