The prosecution failed to prove a prima facie case because material doubts arose from use of expired test strips without satisfactory explanation, material contradictions and unexplained discrepancies in witness evidence and pathology report dates, and a break in the evidential chain which the prosecution did not reasonably explain; these unresolved doubts required the court to discharge the accused without calling the defence.
