The court accepted the unqualified guilty plea but found that the public interest and need for deterrence in a case where a public servant stole 40 government laptops and profited RM55,000 outweighed mitigation; therefore a custodial sentence of 12 months and a RM5,000 fine (3 months default) was appropriate and justified.
