The High Court upheld the convictions because the complainant's evidence was found credible and consistent and admissible under s18 of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017; although the trial judge erred in invoking an adverse inference under s114(g) Evidence Act 1950, that error did not render the convictions unsafe; however the court reduced the custodial term from ten to eight years on each charge and reduced the whipping on one charge after applying appellate sentencing principles.
