The High Court allowed the appeal because the plaintiffs failed to prove the deceased earned the higher sums claimed; the court must give weight to pleaded figures and reliable documentary evidence (income tax returns) and reject self-serving, uncorroborated vouchers; applying s.7 Civil Law Act and compensatory principle, the proven loss of support to the parents was MYR1,000 per month, not the higher amount awarded by the Sessions Court.
