Where a declaratory court order and uncontested DNA evidence establish a man as the biological father of an illegitimate child, the Registrar-General has a statutory duty under sections 27 and 28 of the Births and Deaths Registration Act 1957 to correct and update the public register to reflect the true particulars; section 13 governs registration at the time of birth and does not prohibit post‑registration correction pursuant to the Registrar-General's duties, and original entries are preserved when corrections are made.
