The Court of Appeal held that the freezing-and-unfreezing principle applies: entry of a judgment in default freezes the writ's running period and when that judgment is set aside the remaining validity period resumes; applying that principle the plaintiff's renewal application filed on 20 January 2023 was within the remaining 30 days and thus properly made, and the High Court's discretionary allowance of the extension was not plainly wrong and should stand under the court's inherent jurisdiction and Rules of Court provisions.
