The conviction and sentence were set aside because the prosecution relied on an uncertified police computer printout of previous convictions (P17) that did not comply with section 400 CPC or Evidence Act authentication requirements, and because the court failed to explain prior convictions and exhibits to an unrepresented accused as required by sections 173(a) and (b) CPC, producing a miscarriage of justice; therefore conviction was illegal ab initio and the case must be remitted for trial.
