The High Court held that the two rape convictions constituted one transaction under the one transaction rule and totality principle and that a concurrent execution of imprisonment was appropriate; therefore the effective aggregate imprisonment is 10 years (sentences to run concurrently) while upholding the statutory combined total of 20 strokes to be executed according to s288(5); the exercise of discretion under s282 was justified by the offender's age and the balance between public interest and prisoner welfare.
