The prosecution failed to prove a prima facie case because it did not establish the accused's exclusive possession, knowledge or control of the firearm and ammunition; there were significant investigative and evidential gaps (unverified photographs, absence of independent witnesses for other occupants, gaps when premises were unattended, no forensic links), therefore doubts remain and must be resolved for the accused's benefit leading to discharge.
