Because the offending involved a dangerous, sawn-off firearm that was discharged in an urban area, prolonged detention, repeated violence and threats, theft, and significant victim impact, the court set a global starting point of seven years imprisonment (including a six-month uplift for retention of the unsafe firearm); after discounts of six months for youth and six months (approx 9%) for guilty pleas that saved trial costs but were later sought to be vacated, the effective sentence is six years imprisonment to be served concurrently across counts.
