Having compared authorities, the Court adopted a starting point of seven years for manslaughter involving a close-range discharged shotgun, applied a six-month uplift to reflect relevant prior convictions and that the offence occurred while on EM bail, and then applied a total mitigation discount of 40% (10% cultural, 5% mental health, 5% remorse, 20% for early offer to plead), resulting in an imposed sentence of four years and eight months' imprisonment.
