Although reasonable franchisee recipients could identify Salmon as the person referred to, the email, read with the proved background, did not convey the pleaded defamatory innuendoes (dishonesty, misuse or imprudence of funds); it conveyed only criticism of the marketing efficacy of the vehicle and a suggestion to sell it, therefore the claim failed and the declaration was refused.
