Because the Criminal Procedure Rules anticipate confidential treatment of assistance to authorities and the procedural error in not following rr 5A.7–5A.8 would otherwise defeat that protective regime, the Court held ss 205(2)(c) and (e) authorised continuation of suppression to protect defendants and the integrity of police investigations; accordingly the appeal was dismissed and access restrictions were imposed.
