The sentencing Judge erred in finding no causal link between the s27 cultural background report and the offending; the report established a contributory link warranting a discrete cultural discount (12%). The appropriate starting point was five and a half years (66 months), after applying a 12% cultural discount, a 4‑month uplift for prior convictions and a 25% guilty plea discount the end sentence is substituted to three years and ten months' imprisonment (46 months).
