For the purposes of s 188 Crimes Act 1961 'maim' means an injury to the body which causes a loss of all or part of a limb or otherwise deprives a person of the permanent use of all or part of a limb; historical definitions limited to 'fighting ability' or temporary disabling wounds are rejected.
