Extension of time to appeal against sentence was declined because the late dementia evidence did not establish a substantial causal contribution to the offending at the time, the multiple potential causal factors (including alcohol and longstanding sexual preoccupation) could not be disentangled at this distance, sentencing must also account for community protection and parole availability, and any reduction would not materially affect release timing; an order prohibiting publication of the applicant's name under s140 Criminal Justice Act 1985 was made to protect the complainant's identity.
