The appropriate sentence was determined by fixing a 3 year 9 month starting point for a manslaughter by stabbing, reducing it by 25% for the defendant's PTSD and contribution from prolonged domestic violence to 34 months, further reducing 4 months for genuine remorse to 30 months, then applying a full 25% guilty plea discount to arrive at 22 months' imprisonment which was converted to 12 months' home detention as imprisonment was not necessary and home detention better served accountability and childcare needs.
