The child's objection and maturity were established and merited substantial weight, but on balancing the child's welfare against the Convention's objective and given that abuse was unproven, US authorities are capable of protection, and Father's deliberate absconding weighed heavily against him, the residual discretion was properly exercised to order the child's prompt return to the United States.
