The Standards Committee and LCRO erred in law by treating an asserted convention as overriding or contradicting explicit professional rules (rr 8.05 and 10.08 and r13.10.4) which permitted defence counsel to interview Crown witnesses prior to a lower court hearing; because the decisions failed to give proper weight to those rules and relied on inapplicable court guidelines, they are invalid and set aside, with no rehearing warranted.
