The defendant's murder was 'especially bad' due to the exceptional brutality (94 sharp force injuries, targeted head/torso/face, defensive wounds), use of multiple weapons, callous post-offence conduct and victim vulnerability; prior violent convictions warranted a 12-month uplift but were effectively offset by personal background; a minimum period of 17 years is appropriate and not manifestly unjust; sentence of life imprisonment with a 17-year minimum imposed.
