On the available medical evidence the appellant failed to prove that the L5/S1 disc abnormality or his lumbar symptoms were caused by the motor vehicle accident; the temporal link and treating surgeon's equivocal statements did not establish traumatic injury and medical opinion favored pre-existing degenerative change or non‑traumatic pain mechanisms, so ACC's refusal of cover was upheld.
