The judge adopted a 36-month starting point for the offending, deducted five months for the early guilty plea, allowed eight months for time on EM bail (less than the 9 months sought), reduced the starting point by 15% for the defendant's adverse background and diminished culpability and by a further 5% for remorse and rehabilitative engagement, producing a 16-month end sentence.
