On the balance of probabilities the need for total left knee replacement was the result of long-standing, progressive osteoarthritis caused by years of sporting strain and earlier pathology predating the 2007 fall; the 2007 incident only exacerbated symptoms and did not cause the condition that required total knee replacement, therefore ACC lawfully declined to fund the surgery.
