Court fixed an 8.5 year starting point applying Taueki (upper band two). A nine month reduction for victim provocation/self‑defence yielded 7 years 9 months. After accounting for personal factors (15% mitigation), a 9 month uplift for prior violent convictions, and a 20% guilty plea discount the net effect was a 25% reduction from that point, producing a final sentence of five years and ten months' imprisonment. The Court imposed a minimum period of imprisonment of 50% (two years and eleven months).
