The High Court rejected the appeal and upheld the sentence as not manifestly excessive: although the District Court judge erred by omitting a discrete allowance for restrictive bail conditions, that error did not produce an unjust sentence because the offending was sufficiently serious (Taueki banding supported a higher starting point) and the final sentence fell within the permissible range; therefore the six years five months' imprisonment was upheld.
