Given the defendant's pattern of predatory sexual offending, significant alcohol dependence, cognitive impairment, minimisation and lack of sustained rehabilitation, the court held a determinate sentence would not protect the community and imposed preventive detention with a minimum period of imprisonment of five years to allow custodial treatment and Parole Board oversight.
