- Court of Appeal
Admission to the jury of passages in the police videotaped interview revealing the appellant's prior imprisonments and bad character was irrelevant and highly prejudicial such that the murder verdict was unsafe; accordingly the appeal is allowed, the murder conviction is quashed, a conviction for manslaughter is substituted, the life sentence is quashed and the appellant is re-sentenced to eight years' imprisonment; the application to adduce fresh evidence on appeal is declined.
