The statutory definition of "event" in s 21B requires suddenness or a distinguishable series of events arising from the same cause that together comprise a single incident; the claimant's experiences during a four-month secondment (including the rebranding/conversion process and subsequent workplace pressures, compounded by but not directly caused by the Pike River disaster) were incremental and indistinguishable rather than sudden events.
